I'm almost 6 foot tall and I feel like short guy! I've just come back from a skiing holiday, I went to a resort which is known for masses of Dutch guys descending on the place during the skiing season, most of them on a stag party. I can honestly say I've never felt so small in my life!
The resort I'm talking about is Ishgl, it's in Austria but might as well be in Netherlands there's that many Dutch. It's known for it's party apres ski atmosphere, so like all guys, I wanted a piece of the fun (I might be old but I enjoy having fun since I work so hard back at the labs in Zurich. Unfortunately there's a massive ratio divide, with the huge majority of punters being male but that wasn't going to stop me getting drunk and partying along. The problem was I felt like school kid being pushed around by adults all night long, despite the fact that i'm in the later years of my life. It's not like that when I go out to bars in other parts of the world, so why there? I've also been to Amsterdam airport on numerous occasions and always felt very inferior in terms of height copmared to others. This had me questioning myself - are Dutch people tall?
Yes Dutch people are tall
How do I know this? For two reasons.
1. I always feel short when around Dutch people both in an out of the Netherlands. I'm not the only one, check out my colleague at this conference, in which so many Dutch people attended.
After the conference we had a few drinks, these girls asked for a photo with a Dutch guy that came along with us. Note that his mate in the background is pretty much the same height as him.
2. The second reason I know that Dutch people are taller is because global research statistics prove it. The average height of a Dutch man is 182.9cm, compared to 176.3cm for American men.
Why are Dutch people taller than everyone else?
There could be numerous reasons for this. I believe that it's both genetics and environmental factors that make them taller. Europeans are taller than the global average, just like East Asians are smaller than most other countries, differences in races exist, it's a fact of life. The Dutch are closely related to the Germans but stats show that Dutch are superior when it comes to height, so it can't all just be genetics of their race. The environmental factor here is the Dutch diet - it's seriously high in protein. We all know what protein does. It's the building blocks of life! Without it, your not growing even one cell! Typically their diet consists of a lot of high protein cheese and ham. The problem in the UK where I live is that most of us don't get any protein for breakfast or lunch. These meals are vital for nutrients, and the steady flow of protein from all meals should be a part of everyone's diet in my opinion.
There you go, if your young and still have room for growth, get the most out of your potential by eating well.
