I'm almost 6 foot tall and I feel like short guy! I've just come back from a skiing holiday, I went to a resort which is known for masses of Dutch guys descending on the place during the skiing season, most of them on a stag party. I can honestly say I've never felt so small in my life!

The resort I'm talking about is Ishgl, it's in Austria but might as well be in Netherlands there's that many Dutch. It's known for it's party apres ski atmosphere, so like all guys, I wanted a piece of the fun (I might be old but I enjoy having fun since I work so hard back at the labs in Zurich. Unfortunately there's a massive ratio divide, with the huge majority of punters being male but that wasn't going to stop me getting drunk and partying along. The problem was I felt like school kid being pushed around by adults all night long, despite the fact that i'm in the later years of my life. It's not like that when I go out to bars in other parts of the world, so why there? I've also been to Amsterdam airport on numerous occasions and always felt very inferior in terms of height copmared to others. This had me questioning myself - are Dutch people tall?

Yes Dutch people are tall

How do I know this? For two reasons.

1. I always feel short when around Dutch people both in an out of the Netherlands. I'm not the only one, check out my colleague at this conference, in which so many Dutch people attended.

After the conference we had a few drinks, these girls asked for a photo with a Dutch guy that came along with us. Note that his mate in the background is pretty much the same height as him.

2. The second reason I know that Dutch people are taller is because global research statistics prove it. The average height of a Dutch man is 182.9cm, compared to 176.3cm for American men.

Why are Dutch people taller than everyone else?

There could be numerous reasons for this. I believe that it's both genetics and environmental factors that make them taller. Europeans are taller than the global average, just like East Asians are smaller than most other countries, differences in races exist, it's a fact of life. The Dutch are closely related to the Germans but stats show that Dutch are superior when it comes to height, so it can't all just be genetics of their race. The environmental factor here is the Dutch diet - it's seriously high in protein. We all know what protein does. It's the building blocks of life! Without it, your not growing even one cell! Typically their diet consists of a lot of high protein cheese and ham. The problem in the UK where I live is that most of us don't get any protein for breakfast or lunch. These meals are vital for nutrients, and the steady flow of protein from all meals should be a part of everyone's diet in my opinion.

There you go, if your young and still have room for growth, get the most out of your potential by eating well.

They are taller for sure. No question about it.

I feel sorry for you. I am around or almost 6 ft. And in the UK, still there are other guys trying to be taller than me and most of them are wearing these stupid chunky shoes. I hate that! At one place I felt the same as you.

They are massive. It's all the cheese and meat they eat, no doubt about it.

I'm from the Netherlands and measure at a height of 6.4 feet (completed) and I feel tall for my age (22). I'm actually suprised by the fact that the secondary vocational education school I'm attending, have a lot of small students. Most of them around the height of 170 to 185 cm's (5.6 feet to 6.1 feet). And even I'm being considered a giant. It's true that the average Dutch person is tall, but there are also a lot of them who aren't. Also, I'd like to remark that not every Dutch person likes cheese ( me for instance)

what about Dutch women? Are they very tall as we hear? Do you feel short even around Dutch women or only men?

'People' means men and women. Or in your view, are women not people?

I have literally scoured this Height Database site, and all I can say is that even though I am already on the road to being a taller individual (even though I'm already very confident about who I am), this blog incites lots of sadness and depression. I would have more respect for the author of this blog if he provided solutions to shorter height other than "wear heels" and "eat healthy". Sure, the internet is full of scams, but there are a few products out there that can shine amongst the bunch. I am not particularly sure about it, but every time I visit this site, read through the blogs about tall celebrities and why people are insecure about their height automatically makes me feel sick to my stomach. Furthermore, reading the conformist opinions of others also instigates this feeling. Reading these blogs is very offensive and is worse than dedicating some research time into products that have the potential of helping in the height department. I am not offended, just saddened about the fact that short and "average-height" people have to read these demotivating blogs and further think there is nothing they can do and that "their doctor was right".

No doubt about it. Dutch people are very tall. I used to work for a tv channel in Pakistan. I met three dutch. one man and two women who were attending social economic forum in 2006. That dutch guy was around 6'4/6'5 and both the ladies were around 6. In Pakistan, you would hardly find any woman over 6. Being a 5'8 guy, I never felt short except with them. I felt really awkward interviewing them. One of those ladies told me their diet includes milk cheese and meat.
